About regulatory compliance. ![]() I just have to say how much each and every mainboard manual I have ever read sucks. Honestly, if you where to compare my old pentium VX manual with my old BX manual with my new K7T Pro2A manual, then I'm sure there wouldn't be more than 10-15 words that where different. Do they ever change these things. Here is my favourite part of the K7Ts manual: 'This section helps you to get more information about your system including CPU temperature, FAN speed and voltages. It is recommended that you contact with your motherboard supplier to get proper value about your setting of the CPU temperature.' You ARE the motherboard supplier you schmucks! How about laying off the copy paste routine from Awards generic manual? They aren't for motherboards, but the best manuals I've ever seen are those from Plextor. They're extremely well put together and fun to read. For instance, each section of the manual is prefaced by a little section that summarizes what that section is about with 3 bullet items: 'Your Task,' 'Your Objective,' and 'Your Method.' An example quote: Your Task: Save your box (if you recieved one). Your Objective: Have a secure container in which to ship your drive back to Plextor, if necessary. Your Method: Find an empty space in your home/office and fill it with the Plextor box. I don't want to get into semantics with you Sauron. I guess you are right from a pure gramatical standpoint. But the folks who designed and produced the Mb are the only ones who know the relationship between the actual temperature of the cpu (core) and the cpu temperature as it is measured by the Mb (via some probe under the socket). This is what I meant. Perhaps the value that the Mb reports has been weighted to approximate the actual temperature of the cpu core, in which case it is up to the cpu manufacturer to provide me with information about maximum temperature ranges. In that case you are also right about me bitching at the wrong person (you should hear me in CS.) I STILL think Mb manuals suck. You can always argue that if one doesn't know what 'Spread spectrum modulated' is, then you shouldn't worry about it. But I paid for the product and I think it is my right to get a decent explanation of all its various functions. Imagine a car that has buttons on the dashboard that are not explained in the manual. As for the maximum temperature of my cpu, I found this excellent link on hardocp: Peace. What gets me is when I get some installation instructions that say the driver I need is in such and such directory, but said directory doesn't exist on the CD! Or the instructions say use the 'run' option of windows to run 'D: install', only there isn't an 'install' in the root directory on the CD. In that particular case, I saw that there was a 'setup' program and ran that instead and it did what I needed. But what does some poor schmuck that doesn't know much about computers do in these situations? Why doesn't anyone actually test out their installation instructions (well, I realize that some companies do). Okay, i think I feel better now. Thnx for letting me vent. That's not so bad. At least it's in english! I'm used to reading Motherboard Manuals that were written somewhere in Asia, and run through babblefish.com.
